Welcome to the gang. I too am in my 40's just learning to ride. I also was considering a 250 Rebel or Virago as a first bike as I wanted something that wasn't too heavy. When I saw the Savage sitting on the showroom floor, I just had to try it out. I liked the way it felt - much more comfortable than the other two bikes - and when I found out that it weighed about the same as the smaller bikes that made up my mind. I knew that I would be much happier on a bike that I could keep up with my SO on his Harley, and that I wasn't going to grow out of in a few months. I'm extremely happy with my Savage!! As suggested, I'm taking it nice and slow, going at my own pace. I just cruise around the valley roads at the moment, as I am not quite ready to go out on the freeway just yet. But I will get there and so will you.
